Tumescent Liposuction
At our office in La Jolla, liposuction will be performed while you are under general anesthesia (asleep). The treatment area will be infused with tumescent fluid, a sterile solution that actually provides pain relief while also reducing bleeding and bruising, and making fat easier to remove.
Areas that can be treated with tumescent liposuction include the hips, thighs, butt, abdomen, chest, upper arms, back, and chest. Small incisions will be made (located in areas where they will be as inconspicuous as possible) through which the area will be infused with the tumescent fluid and a tiny tube (a "cannula") will be inserted. The tube is moved through the treatment area to suction away unwanted fat.
Dr. Chaffoo also combines power assisted liposuction (PAL) with the tumescent technique. PAL uses a pulsating cannula to loosen fat. This can be especially helpful in the areas of the back, flanks and chest, as well as revision cases. The addition of PAL reduces tissue trauma for less swelling and bruising and a more accurate and complete removal of unwanted fat.
