Fergie's New Face
Fans barely recognized the singer during
a recent American Idol appearance

When Fergie took the stage with the Black Eyed Peas during a guest appearance on American Idol on March 17, her performance was upstaged by what looked like a brand-new face! Fans couldn't help but notice that the singer, who's celebrating her 36th birthday on March 27, seemed to have undergone a makeover. While reviews of her appearance were mixed, one thing seems certain: She's done something. "This might be from some quick fixes like Botox and fillers," says Dr. Michelle Copeland, a New York plastic surgeon. Or she may also have had more major procedures, like a forehead lift or liposuction around her jawline.
"It's possible she's undergone fillers to her face," agrees Dr. Richard Chaffoo, a San Diego plastic surgeon. But it also appears she's had work done to her eyes and nose, he adds.
Fergie has admitted she's extremely self-conscious about her appearance. "It has hurt me when people say things like how 'fugly' I am or how horrible I look," she's said.
Possible Procedures
- A smoother forehead? Dr. Copeland suspects Fergie may have gotten Botox to get rid of wrinkles.
- More uplifted eyelids? "It appears she had an upper-lid blepharoplasty to remove excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids," says Dr. Chaffoo. This procedure can make patients look more well-rested.
- A more refined nose? "She no longer has a nasal hump, and the nasal tip is better defined," says Dr. Chaffoo.
- A more chiseled chin? "She may have had some tightening of the jawline," says Dr. Copeland, which can help get rid of years-adding jowls.
In the past, the singer has denied reports of surgery but said she'd consider having procedures like Botox. But after rumors surfaced in November 2009 that husband Josh Duhamel, 38, had an affair with a stripper (which he denied), Fergie may have started feeling pressure to take extreme measures. "Looks are never the reason men stray," says Trina Dolenz, couples therapist on VH1's Tool Academy and author of Retool Your Relationship. "Plastic surgery won't solve any of their relationship problems. She's paying attention to the wrong thing."
